The mission of Community Action Programs Cayuga/Seneca (CAP) is to cultivate a community where all people are respectfully supported and empowered to embrace opportunities for learning, growth and economic security.
CAP is seeking a Behavioral Support Specialist in our Early Childhood Program. The Behavioral Support Specialist (BSS) is responsible for working with children (ages 2-5) enrolled in the Head Start program that exhibit challenging behaviors and would benefit from additional 1:1 support. The BSS will work with classroom staff and in conjunction with the Mental Health Manager to develop and implement developmentally appropriate behavior support plans which promote healthy social-emotional development.
Bachelor's degree in special education, behavioral science, or mental health field, or Associates' degree in early childhood development with at least 2 years experience working with children ages 2-5 with behavior challenges in a group setting. Ability to take a strength-based approach to children's needs. Knowledge and understanding of the person-centered philosophy. Must have reliable transportation and a valid NYS driver's license. Must be fully vaccinated per Federal Head Start Performance Standards.
This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position. The pay rate is $20.12/hr, 35 hrs/wk, 43 wks/yr.
